Music classes at Forest Hills will start September 29th and run for 10 weeks, ending December 8th. Save the date: December 8th will be a family class for parents and caregivers to come and join in.
Music education compliments all areas of a young child's development, be it social, emotional, language or motor. Music activities in the classroom ease transitions and build community, while musical experiences in the home strengthen bonds between children and their parents, creating memories to last a lifetime. Most of all, though, music is fun!
Up to 12 children, two years old and up, may enroll for our class, meeting each week on Wednesdays at 3.30 pm for a 45 minute class to experience a blend of songs, rhymes, movement and hands-on instrument play.
Every child takes home a CD of that semester's music so that families can learn the songs along with them at home. Developmentally appropriate material is used; we'll work with traditional childhood songs as well as original music. Julia McLeod, a trained early childhood music specialist, brings a wide variety of instruments to each class. From triangles and rhythm sticks to drums and shakers, there's something new each week . The mixed age format of our classes allows siblings to attend class together and lets younger children take the lead from the 'big kids' in class. Every child meets the different activities at his or her own level.
In addition to the Music at Preschool teacher, one of the preschool staff is present in class, to model enjoyment and enthusiastic participation.
Music at Preschool classes cost $125 per student per 10 week semester. Sibling fee: $80.
